Ghost Town

 Sophia Bryter

Lyrics:

Walking home today, swear the ground will cave. The bridge is

cracking under this town’s standards as if it were clay. The people on

the street, they don’t know my name, or pretend not to - keep their

heads down and walk away. The restaurant where my friend and I

dreamed we’d work at sixteen is ash now, tossed ‘round on the

highway – a message in a sign indicating I should turn away.

So am I gonna go down with this ghost town? Or am I gonna

keep the headphones too loud, blocking out my vision, blocking out my

sound? Hang on you psychopathic buzzed crowd, a train is coming but

you won’t hear a sound, probably should clear the vapors out

Dangerous Diamond eternity, amplifying stereotypes till I leave,

mocking me. Trying to see through these fake entities. I cannot sleep

with the ringing of church bells that hide behind religion, intoxicating

silence in suburban prison. dreaming of their crimes, idealize division.

So am I gonna go down with this ghost town? Or am

I gonna keep the headphones too loud, blocking out my vision, blocking

out my sound. Hang on you psychopathic buzzed crowd, A train is

coming but you won’t hear a sound, probably should clear the vapors out.

Thanks to all you brain-cell-deprived catcalling teens for unwittingly

faming and patronizing me. Grateful to all you insane human

hurricanes, for giving me a reputation, raising suspicions up to my

knees. Shoutout to all you ‘egoistics’ with firearms for thinking you

killed me, but only left healing scars, your drive only lasted so far.

Am I gonna go down with this ghost town, or am I gonna keep the

headphones too loud blocking out my vision, blocking out my sound?

Hang on you psychopathic buzzed crowd, A train is coming but

you won’t hear a sound, probably should clear the vapors out

Sophia Bryter (Paffenback) is an 18-year-old songwriter and musician based in Baltimore. At five she was accepted into an audition-based choir through Peabody Preparatory, which she would stick with for nine years. Now at the age of 18, she continues the classical piano lessons she started at age six and has also taken up an education in jazz. After joining her first audition-based band through music school and recording studio, Stages Music Arts, Bryter created her own band with whom she would record an album of original music. The process of creating an album was life-changing for Bryter, not only due to the catharsis involved in the completion of a personal collection of music, but also due to the friendships made with the members of the band. Currently, she has three singles released under the name Sophia Bryter and her debut album of original music is to be released soon. Bryter is performing as much as she can through Baltimore/DC venues such as: The Ottobar, The Recher, Sofar Sounds, Hamilton Live, Stages Music Arts, Current Space, and more. Most recently, Bryter became a YoungArts finalist in singer/songwriter and was able to attend National YoungArts Week in Miami, where she was mentored by industry professionals and collaborated with other YoungArts winners. Bryter is in her senior year at George Washington Carver Center for Arts and Technology and next year she aspires to attend Berklee College of Music in Boston.
